Prepare For Rain

"Prepare For Rain" is a metaphor from Facing The Giants that is intended to bring about an attitude of trust and faith in God. In the movie, Coach Taylor is challenged to start acting like God will answer his prayers. He is told the story of two farmers that were praying desperately for rain. One farmer went out into his fields and prepared them as if God would answer that prayer.

Do you trust God to answer your prayers? If you answered quickly (because I did), I propose that you ought to consider again, and take into perspective a few things I've learned:

  • In a moment of dissatisfaction, I'm almost always not focusing on my active relationship with God... I'm hoping for something, but not honestly asking for God's help.
  • In a desperate plea, I almost always see the situation as futile... and I'm pretty much not giving God any chance to deliver.
  • In many cases, I'm asking for too small a thing for God... and something I feel that is under my control anyway I'll pray for God's provision, and then turn around and attempt to tackle the situation myself.
  • In cases where I actually turn to God for help on a critical issue, I'll sit idly-by and ignore the calling of God as He tries to guide me through that situation.

I recommend that you read Hebrews 11, and spend a good amount of time absorbing the Glory of God. It is completely mind-boggling when you see how God's plans unfold in the lives of the Old Testament Heroes. Their story is much like our story. One event in our lives may impact us negatively at the moment, but then God guides our paths. That event then becomes the basis for a chain of events that follow, all leading to a rich blessing that would have never occurred with out that initial fall.

The Heroes of old should be an encouragement to us. Their lives of faith demanded great sacrifices and standing against insurmountable odds. The physically impossible occurred because of the power of God. They were called to do things we'd never dream of having to do. In Faith they acted, and never even lived to claim the fulfillment of God's promise. That faith led to commendation as righteous.

So what challenge are you called to face? Abraham was called by God to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. Abraham would have done it too, but God stopped Abraham from going through with the sacrifice. We are called by God to share the story of how He didn't hold back His only Son. God gave His Son, Jesus, to be the sacrifice for our sins.

Does your life actually reflect what you say you believe? Are you at all inspired by the power of God, to the point that you can't help but take action?

If not... what's stopping you?
